in 1980, LEX-18 spotlighted the first children awaiting adoption through Kentucky's Special Needs Adoption Program (SNAP) now named Kentucky Adoption Profile Exchange (KAPE). On September 27, 1989, Thursday’s Child, Inc. became a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. All board members are volunteers and all funds received are directed to support the waiting children in the KAPE program. The board’s mission is to recruit adoptive parents, support waiting children and provide post-adoption support. Over the 30 years of partnership efforts of Kentucky’s Special Needs Adoption Program, LEX18 and Thursday's Child we have facilitated over 2,000 adoptions successful adoptions.
For us to support our mission we must continue to have the support of businesses and individuals throughout the state of Kentucky. Thursday's Child, Inc, strives to meet the needs of waiting children and offer support to the families who adopt them by providing services not covered by the state. Some of the activities we have provided are KAPE/Thursday’s Child picnics and other matching events for waiting children and prospective families, special interest camps, educational grants for children exiting foster care, school and community activities for the waiting children that state monies will not fund, childcare for adoption support group meetings and workshops to support the caring families who adopt and love these children.
Through this website we want to offer you the opportunity to learn more about us and the children and families we serve. Please explore the site to learn more about how you can help, meet some of the children who wait and those who have achieved successes due to the support of Thursday's Child Inc. and people like you.
